Zorn names new chief of staff

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Dale Zorn announced on Thursday the appointment of Joe Martin to serve as his new chief of staff.

“I am delighted to announce Joe Martin as my new chief of staff,” said Zorn, R-Ida. “As a native of our district, he has a connection to and genuine understanding of our communities, and his prior legislative experience will serve us well as we tackle the challenging issues affecting our region and state.”

Martin, of Holt, is a native of Bedford Township and graduated from Temperance Bedford High School in 2009. He has worked in numerous legislative roles including previously serving as chief of staff to Sen. Jim Runestad; chief of staff to former Sen. Jack Brandenburg; legislative director to then-Rep. Runestad; and constituent relations aide to former House Speaker Jase Bolger.

“I am excited to get started. I am even more excited to get to work making a difference for the people of my hometown and all of Monroe and Lenawee counties,” Martin said. “Being able to work for someone like Senator Zorn is truly an honor.”

Martin holds a juris doctor degree from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a bachelor’s degree in political science and business administration from Alma College.

“I’ve known Joe and his family for quite some time now,” Zorn said. “Having him in my office with his knowledge of the district and the legislative process will be a real benefit to the residents of the 17th Senate District.”
