LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, issued the following statement regarding Trendwell Energy Corporation’s decision to withdraw their permit for the Secor #D4-18 SWD injection well proposed in Summerfield Township:
“I was very happy to receive the news that Trendwell pulled their application. This gives us time to take a longer look at what regulations and safeguards should be in place for waste injection wells in our area of Michigan, without the possibility of a permit being issued.
“I look forward to continue working with Trendwell, the industry, experts on groundwater and geology and my fellow legislators to make sure water is protected and the unique challenges of the karst geology in southeastern Michigan are considered going forward.”
Attached is a letter sent by Trendwell Energy to local landowners informing them of the news and a copy of the letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality requesting their permit be withdrawn.
