LANSING—After listening to the governor’s 2015 State of the State address Tuesday night, Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, issued the following statement:
“As a small business owner, I applaud the governor for putting forward a positive plan to make our state more efficient and effective in how we meet the needs of our residents and job creators.
“During my time in the Legislature, we have accomplished much to improve our state and energize our economy. As a result, we have seen an increase in tourism and a growing economy that has created more than 300,000 jobs in four years.
“The governor called for more transparency at the local level of government, and I look forward to putting my 30 years of experience in local government to use as we work with our locals to enact innovative solutions to improve effectiveness and openness in how we provide critical local services to families and job providers.
“I am proud that education will remain a top priority. We must focus on improving student academic performance and ensuring our schools give every Michigan student an education that meets their needs and prepares them for success.
“Career and technical education plays an important role in bringing all residents into the governor’s ‘River of Opportunity.’ Michigan is creating jobs, yet many of these positions remain unfilled. Applied learning can help give students and existing workers the skills necessary to fill the workforce needs of a growing economy.”
