LANSING, Mich. — After listening to the governor’s 2016 State of the State address Tuesday night, Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, issued the following statement:
“Tonight we heard a governor with a plan. He gave a very good explanation of the problem in Flint and the steps to fix it. He was forthcoming, accepted responsibility and expressed his willingness to work with the Legislature and the local government in the city to resolve the problem.
“It was very different from past speeches, but his positive attitude came out. It was very typical of his work ethic and his strong desire to solve problems.
“Beyond Flint water, I was glad to hear his assessment of our economy. Jobs are up and the wage scale is up, but we cannot stop. We need to continue to make Michigan a place where companies want to come and create jobs.
“Finally, the governor focused on Detroit Public Schools. It’s a serious issue, and it’s going to require thinking outside the box. He showed leadership that it’s an issue he wants to take on.”
