LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Dale Zorn on Thursday praised the recent news that Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July fell to 5.3 percent.
“This drop in Michigan’s unemployment rate to its lowest level in 14 years is outstanding news for Michigan families and our entire state,” said Zorn, R-Ida. “It is a clear illustration that our economic growth and job creation efforts are achieving positive results.
“While our economy strengthens and more people are working, this is not the time to become complacent. There is more we need to do to make our state an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Michigan’s July unemployment rate matches the national average and is the lowest Michigan monthly rate since August 2001.
“Since I started serving in the Legislature in 2011, I have worked hard to energize our economy and help create more than 400,000 private sector jobs for Michigan workers,” Zorn said. “Our focus now is to continue building on that solid foundation and improving opportunities for all residents to participate in our state’s success, especially the 800,000 people who lost jobs during Michigan’s decade of decline.”
