Senator Dale W. Zorn
Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, welcomed Vietnam veteran Dave Davison of Luna Pier to the state Capitol on Thursday as his special guest for the Michigan Senate's 23rd Annual Memorial Day Service, which honored Michigan's fallen soldiers. Davison served six years in the U.S. Army, including two years in Vietnam. He is currently the mayor of Luna Pier and the twin brother of Michael Davison, who was Zorn's guest last year.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, welcomed the Monroe County Bicentennial Alliance to the Capitol on Wednesday to celebrate the upcoming bicentennial of Monroe County. Zorn presented the group with a copy of Senate Resolution 60, which was adopted by the Senate in recognition of the county's bicentennial. Joining Zorn for the presentation were Rep. Jason Sheppard, R-Temperance, and Rep. Joe Bellino, R-Monroe.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Tuesday presented a special tribute to Harry Hutchinson of Tecumseh in recognition of being named an IBEW Hour Power Apprentice of the Year. Three out of the last five years a Michigan apprentice has won this prestigious award. Hutchinson was the 2015 award winner. In addition to excelling in his apprenticeship class and on the job site, Hutchinson brought a passion for community work and charitable giving to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 252. He was the founder of the Union 4 Life charity, raising over $30,000 for breast cancer research at the University of Michigan Research Center.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, and Rep. Bronna Kahle, R-Clinton, on Thursday honored the Hudson High School varsity wrestling team at the Michigan Capitol for winning the 2017 Division 4 state championship. The Tigers have been to a state record nine consecutive finals - winning six state titles during that time. The lawmakers presented Coach Scott Marry and the team with a special tribute signed by Zorn, Kahle and Gov. Rick Snyder.

Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Saturday presented a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal in honor of Burnell Brandeberry's service with the Civil Air Patrol during World War II before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Brandeberry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ardith, who accepted the medal on his behalf. Pictured with Brandeberry (seated) from left are: Lt. Col. Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Saturday presented Ardith Brandeberry with a Congressional Gold Medal, posthumously honoring her late husband's service with the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Burnell Brandeberry served in a squadron based in Adrian, where he learned to fly and earned his wings before leaving to train as a B-29 tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Upon discharge from the Army, Brandeberry studied education and became a teacher at schools in Illinois and Ohio. He also served as an elementary school principal in the Toledo area, where he retired. Brandeberry died in 2013 at the age of 86.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, recently welcomed Monroe High School students Starlyn Higgins, Travis Lenta and Nick Bradburn to the state capital. The students presented Zorn with a "Thankful for Our Michigan Roots" sign they made in their welding classroom. The sign is on display in Zorn's Senate office. Joining the students were their instructor Glenn Zorn and Career and Technology Education Director Bill Ferrara.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, welcomed U.S. Army veteran William T. Bruck to the Michigan Capitol on Wednesday. Bruck is a 24-year veteran of the armed forces and served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He owns Visiting Angels of Monroe, a national provider of in-home care for the elderly, and was at the Capitol as part of a visit by Monroe Community College, where he serves as a trustee.

Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, and Dr. Stephen Bell (right) joined Lt. Gov. Brian Calley on Wednesday as Calley signed bipartisan legislation allowing school districts in the state to stock naloxone, an antidote used to treat an opioid overdose in an emergency situation. Bell is an osteopathic physician with a practice in Newport. He was a member of the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force, formed by Gov. Rick Snyder in 2015 to create a comprehensive statewide action plan to address prescription drug and opioid abuse. Bell is currently a member of the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Commission, created in June 2016 by Snyder to help implement the task force's recommendations. Senate Bills 805 and 806 were sponsored by Zorn and Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D- Flint.

The students participated in the 16th Annual Student Technology Showcase at the Capitol. Bundy attends the Jackson College/Lenawee County ISD Academy, a middle college program that allows Lenawee County students to graduate from high school with a diploma and up to 60 college credits. The tribute was signed by Zorn; Gov. Rick Snyder; Lt. Gov. Brian Calley; and Rep. Nancy Jenkins, R-Clayton.

Surrounded by family, Braden Gandee completes a six-day, 111-mile trek from Temperance to the Capitol in an effort to raise awareness of cerebral palsy. Braden was carried by his 16-year-old brother Hunter on the walk for all but the last half mile. The brothers were greeted at the Capitol steps by Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida; Lt. Gov. Brian Calley; and other supporters.

Arnold is a veteran of the Ida Township (Michigan) Fire Department and serves currently as fire chief for the Spencer Township (Ohio) Fire Department. He was at the Capitol to testify before the House Workforce and Talent Development Committee in support of Zorn's legislation to provide firefighter certification reciprocity to a firefighter from another state, as long as the individual was certified in the other state after completing a program that meets or exceeds Michigan's standards.

Maviglia was diagnosed with hearing loss at age nine and was crowned 2014 Miss Michigan in June last year with the platform "Listen Up: Advocating for those with hearing disabilities." She has worked with Zorn to craft the Senate measure.

Dale Zorn, R-Ida, on Wednesday testified before the Senate Regulatory Reform Committee about the need to protect Michigan drivers and consumers by requiring that drivers connected to Uber carry commercial insurance, have a commercial vehicle plate and maintain a chauffer's license. Senate Bill 188 simply includes transportation network drivers under the existing limousine act.
